3 Benefits of Syncing Your Menstrual Cycle to The Lunar Calendar
8th Aug, 2023
The benefits of syncing your menstrual cycle are numerous and predictable, however today we will cover three of the main benefits. Your menstrual cycle is a beautiful phenomenom that occurs (or should) once a month on average.
Syncing your period with the moon is a rewarding and empowering experience! The main benefit is knowing that your mind body and soul are in great alignment.
As women sometimes we can forget that life is all about going through and along with the motions despite all of the demands from life itself, from social expectations to family needs. I personally even practice syncing my own cycle around self care in general but more on that later.
While it is true that syncing your menstrual cycle is primarily regulated by hormonal changes in the body, this does not mean that the moon has no impact on this sacred process that birth control or bad health habits would naturally interfere with.

ToggleMenstruation and The Lunar Cycle…
Modern science will tell us that ” there is no substantial scientific evidence to support [the] notion” of a woman’s menstrual cycle syncing with the phases of the moon, but modern science also pushes the “need” for synthetic/pharmaceutical birth control methods.
As we know there are 4 phases of the moon of the moon: Waxing, Waning, Full and New.
Steps For Syncing Your Menstrual Cycle With the Moon:
That being said, if you are interested in exploring this concept as a form of personal or spiritual connection, here are some steps you can follow today:
1. Getting Familiar With Your Lunar Cycle:
I recommend that you journal and take notes the old fashion way with pen/pencil and paper, but you can use your notes app on your phone as well. Here is my favorite journal kit I got where I write all dreams down I don’t want to forget and note changes within my cycle as well.
When you period arrives, journal about how heavy your flow is, how long it lasts, how much pain you felt/ didn’t feel. Be sure to of course notate the day and even time it arrives as well. This way you can access a pattern after awhile (you need to do this at least for 3 months
2. Practice Mindfulness:
Engage in mindfulness practices to stay in tune with your body and emotions throughout your menstrual cycle. Mindfulness meditation or journaling can help you connect with your inner self as you begin to sync your period with the moon.
This is also apart of being intentional with how we go about our activities day to day. Are you doing things that are in alignment with your purpose, things that make you feel good about yourself or liberated? For example, you can set intentions for self-care, reflection, or embracing femininity during the New Moon or Full Moon. All of this is apart of practicing mindfulness.
3. Be Consistent in Diet:
Be mindful of everything: from the people you find yourself around most often, to the foods you put in your body down to the timing of the day you eat even. All of this plays a apart in whether your bodies hormones can function at its best. For example, when it comes to fruit, melons are in its own sub category as compared to a sub-acidic fruit such as a pineapple. Melons digest fastest and therefore should be eaten first before other fruit groups. Having a consistent and healthy diet along with daily/ weekly moderate exercise can also help to relieve menstrual cramps in general.
4. Practicing Crystal Healing For The Lunar Cycle:
moonstone, rose quartz and amethyst crystals are a great place to start! Be sure to cleanse and charge them (either with moon or sun light) after purchasing. You can place them over your womb as you meditate and practice breathing techniques to increase groundedness and your ability to remain mindful. They even make crystal dildos if you’re into that type of thing, aha ! This is ideal since most products tend to be make with chemical based silicon textures.
We want to use products that are as clean and wholesomely made as possible downstairs. I recommend starting out with a crystal kit so you can experiment with the different properties that each crystal holds. This is especially ideal if you are new and interested in healing with crystals in general. Here is a kit I found most similar to the one I started out with five years ago. Since then I’ve grown my crystal collection to over 30 now. The goal is to have huge clusters in mulitples places throughout my home of course.
5. Create Full & New Moon Rituals:
As we know the new moon is best for setting new intentions and the full moon is all about reaping everything we’ve sown at the start of the new moon.
This is your opportunity to embrace your creativity like never before. What goals are you working towards now? whatever they are, you can work in harmony with the new and full moon to take your manifestation powers to the next level. Here is a cool book on moon rituals my friend bought me for my birthday that I’ve been enjoying for the past six months. It’s great for understanding how to work with the moon in general and perfect for beginners.
Incorporate self-care practices in your rituals, candles, journaling, spiritual baths, etc *Remember: a ritual is simply a set and step by step way of doing a specific task or event (again back to the whole idea of the importance of being intentional in all that you do, think, and say!)
6. Join Supportive Communities:
Participating in women’s circles or groups where individuals share their experiences and holistic remedies for wellness is beyond ideal. I am working on starting my own. If you’ve made it this far in the article feel free to drop a comment about what content you would like to see in an online community with women from various cultures around the world.
These communities can make our journey’s to stay in alignment with the moon that much more rewarding and beneficial. At one point in history it was popular to respect the event of women in communion during their menstruations happening all at once. There was and still is tremendous power in ceremonies such as these.
7. Embrace Nature:
Spend time in nature and observe the moon’s beauty during its different phases. Engaging in nature walks or moonlit rituals can be spiritually fulfilling. I also recommend that you walk barefoot as much as possible. Grounding your being through walking barefoot is a real benefit for our health. Afterall there is nothing wrong with getting our feets and hands dirty in a nature often.
Another tip: Going on long walkes or hikes can also help to reset your energy to where it is cleansed and renewed after working a long and busy week around people and endless electronics!
So What Are The 3 Benefits of Syncing Your Menstrual Cycle to The Lunar Calendar?
Once you have consistently gotten your period consecutively for three months (90 days), you can consider yourself synced.
1. Deepened Intuition:
We hear it all the time. Listen to your GUT! But seriously, our gut health contributes to our overall bodily health. Our overall bodily health communicates with our soul and spirit as we evolve throughout life.
With your menstrual cycle is aligned to the lunar calendar, you can count on your body functioning at its best. When your intuition is deepened you will more readily be able to account for what is best for you vs what is not.
This creates a surround inner calmness that contributes to harmony with ones instincts. After-all our instincts make us who we are so we don’t want those clouded one bit if we can help it!
2. Increased Confidence
With primarily healthy bodily and lifestyle habits, your confidence will increase from sustaining strong wellbeing overall. Health is wealth.
The lunar cycle reminds us of our own phases to honor within as well as without.
When we can align ourselves to the lunar cycle even beyond our menstrual cycle, we can deepen the capacity and power given to us from the moon.
This instills muscle memories of confidence throughout the body that reminds us how to enjoy life, of what matters most and our innate purpose.
3. Profound Insight
When you are privileged with profound insight due to your menstrual cycle being in sync with the lunar calendar, you maneuver towards your goals more easily.
Although there are a few factors that go into having a healthy period, it pays off to stay on top of them. Profound insight increases 3x or more when your menstrual cycle is in sync with other women close to you as well.
Pro Bonus Tip For Lunar-Period Syncing:
Invest in a silicon BPA-free menstruation cup. This is one that is for women with titled cervixes. Thats right. No more pads, tampons and wrappers! Now side bar… I still use pads but I always ensure they are toxic free or cotton. Another handy gadget I keep ready for my cycle each month are my period underwear. These like the cotton pads and cup are all RESUABLE and are perfect for the lunar cycle!
These are awesome becuase you can reuse them as save money as well. I’ve been using this rotation of cycle support along with whole food nutrition and herbs for almost five years as well and I honestly can’t imagine life without it.
Cool Tip: Save your menses blood in a glass jar in the fridge (add Isopropyl alcohol for temporary preservation). Use as needed over time or add to your garden. This is especially ideal if you have a garden, over time as you give your blood back to mother earth she will see to it that your fruits and vegetables have the nutrients your body needs.
**The blood will communicate with the soil and it will use what it can to grow stronger and thus provide you with hormonally balanced produce fit for your DNA specifically. (At least that is what I intuively go by and practice!) I simply use a shovel, say a prayer and burn a petition within it (if I feel called to) and bury it.
I believe these methods along with a wholesome and 50% plant-based/ whole foods diet has provided me the blessing of being able to consistently receive my period on either a full or new moon.
In Conclusion
Remember: Syncing your menstrual cycle is all about a combination of rituals and habits that align with your lifestyle. Also, the concept of menstruation syncing with the moon is a personal belief or practice, and it is essential to approach it with an open and holistic frame of mind. There is nothing wrong if you don’t get your period on the exact day of the full or new moon.
This article is simply written from the perspective of a holistic doula and wellness enthusiast who has had experience of consistently having a cycle within the 3 day ranges of the full or new moon for at least a year or so before my body underwent big changes again.
Always remember factors such as stress, sex dietary habits can and will affect our cycles.
Always prioritize your physical and emotional well-being, and consult with your local holistic practitioners, reiki masters, womb wellness and medicine wombmen for advice along your journey towards syncing your period with the moon.
